Imagine back to when you first heard a song or a tune that struck a chord in you – no matter how it made you feel, this particular song stayed with you throughout your life. And now, whenever you hear it, you’re transported back in time.
That’s the effect Shining Star CLE, a solo-singing competition for Northeast Ohio high school students, will have on its contestants – forming an everlasting memory, not only for them, but also for our residents who will enjoy watching some participants performing live at Montefiore.
Montefiore’s Memory Care Network implements music programs, services and events that help reawaken these precious memories in individuals with dementia. Our network includes two memory care assisted living communities – The Willensky Residence at Montefiore in Beachwood and The David and Freda Robinson Residence at The Weils in Chagrin Falls – and the Home Smart Memory Care program for those who wish to remain at home.
Bridging music, memories and those with dementia
Music allows individuals with dementia to reconnect with the world through music-triggered memories stored deep within the brain, according to the non-profit organization, Music & Memory. While Alzheimer’s damages the ability to recall facts and details, it does not destroy these lasting connections between a favorite song or melody and the memory associated with it, no matter how long ago.
Montefiore’s COVID-19 Expenses Our residents and patients are the most vulnerable population affected by the coronavirus. In order to protect them and keep them healthy and safe, we have taken drastic and costly measures, such as:
– Increased staffing costs to closely monitor our residents and deliver meals via room service
– Emergency sick benefits and other financial support to our staff to ensure they can continue to provide the highest possible care
– New communication tools and staff to make sure our residents stay connected to their families who cannot visit the facility
– Increased ordering of supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE)
The Finals Performance & Competition- Join us VIRTUALLY on Sunday, September 13, 2020 as we celebrate the outstanding vocal talents of our area high school students as we will raise necessary funds to keep memory care programs operating at their best and help with mounting COVID-19 expenses at Montefiore and The Weils!
